Welcome to Year 4 at St Ursula’s
Teachers and Learning Support Assistants
Teacher: Miss Watts
Teacher: Miss Matthews
Teacher: Mr Telford
In Year 4, the children have PE on a Monday afternoon. The children need to wear their PE kits into school to maximise teaching time.
As part of our homework, we expect the children to read daily at home with their parents and sign their reading record. The children work towards reading karate bands which they collect after twenty reads. The certificates are given to reward hard work and frequent reading, not reading ability. Spellings are also given as a part of homework. The spelling test takes place the following Friday.
Times tables are a huge focus in Year 4 due to the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). This is a statutory test for primary schools. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. Therefore, as part of their homework we expect the children to be logging in to Times Table Rockstars Daily.
All of the foundation subjects are covered through a topic approach. These include: history, geography, art, design & technology, ICT, French, religious education, music and drama. A topic lasts for one term and where possible, all subjects are linked to that topic. The foundation subjects are covered each afternoon. These will be clearly shown on your child’s timetable.
